Vladmiro ‘Miro’ Afonso

Oct 27, 2017

Miro started gymnasitcs at a young age with what looked to be a promising future ahead of him.  he got to a very good level but was also at an age where big decisions are made.

Miro decided to give up on his gymnastics and instead started to practice the brazilian art of Capoeira.  Capoeira is a blend of Brazilian martial arts, dance, music and movement.  With his gymnatic background, Miro became quite proficient at this beautiful Brazilian system.

Still, this wasn’t quite enough for Miro who eventually found Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, something that he would become very good at, the proof of which can be seen in his many medals from competitions all over the world.

As of 2017, Miro has been studying Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for 20 years and has been a black belt for 10 of those years.

Miro has trained with some of the best Brazilian Jiu Jitsu fighters and trainers in the world and has a wealth of knowledge which he now passes on to his own students at his academy in Jersey, Channel Islands.

Miro set up the Jersey branch of Brazilian Power Team and has built up a small but growing number of students who themselves are now competing and doing well at competition level.

Miro is a 2nd degree black belt (highest rank in Jersey) under Arnaldo Santos/Marcelo Bernado and has also been a professional MMA fighter: 2x European champion IBJJF,  2x British champion IBJJF NoGI,  NAGA UK champion,  UAE Grand Slam London 3rd place, 9x Portuguese National Champion
